For soloing most pve content, thief is the best largely due to their ability to stealth and their fantastic mobility, it helps when escaping tough situations, they also have excellent dps! Ranger is also a very good solo class because your pet can tank enemies for you while you deal ranged damage.

Necro with full minion build + blood and death magic is still good, but as you said I believe it was nerfed a while back cause you could basically be unkillable with the lifesteal.
